This book contains observation about various aspects of the island of Ceylon, made by the author during his stay in the island in the 1930’s. The book has clearly demarcated chapters that notice a single topic. The book starts with a chapter on general information about Ceylon, and proceeds to describe its people customs, festival, and religion; the temples and ruined, and the contemporary cities; tanks and lakes; Colombo; flora and fauna – especially the elephant; occasional forays into the interior of the island. There are many sketches and photographs that accompany the narrative. This book is a reprint of the 1938 edition
