Adrienne Rich and Anne Sexton are two extremely sensitive and gifted American poets who wrote poetry in the second half of the twentieth century. The book traces the poetic journey of the poets thematically and chronologically, bringing out the similarities and differences in their search for a female identity. The analysis is based on certain theoretical premises derived from some of the leading feminist thinkers of the twentieth century Hélène Cixous, Luce Irigaray, Julia Kristeva, Margaret Atwood and Elaine Showalter, among others.
