Shades of Milk and Honey is a fantasy romance set in the world of Regency England by Mary Robinette Kowal. Summary of the Book In a different version of Regency England where the magical manipulation of “glamour” is presumed to be a basic skill for a lady of finesse, Jane Ellsworth is a beautiful woman who tries her best to stay away from the quest to find a suitor. While other girls spend their time using glamour to attract men, Jane resigns herself to being nearly invisible. She is twenty eight, and that is an old age for a woman to be single. Her fair sister Melody receives much more attention from young men, and Jane doesn’t envy her sister. However, she must test her limits in order to protect her family’s honour, and in doing so, she may yet find that one can’t easily escape from the clutches of love. A novel that merges a world straight out of Jane Austen’s novels with the magic of the fantasy genre, this is a book for the romantic at heart. A professional puppeteer, she has performed for the Center for Puppetry Arts, Jim Henson Productions and performs for her own production company, Other Hand Productions.
