Written in an autobiographical style and divided into four parts, Srikanta is Sharatchandra Chattopadhyay's most memorable, interesting and readable work, which captures the woman's emotional workings very well despite being based on a male lead. The hero, Srikanta is portrayed as a carefree wanderer and it is against his nature to stay in one place for long. If there was anyone to call him their own, it was his classmate, Rajlakshmi, who tried to claim him as her own by putting a garland of karandas around his neck at the age of 9 when he was 14.
