Siddhartha is a literary masterpiece that has captivated seekers and readers ever since its publication many decades ago. Set in the time of Gautama the Buddha, the story takes you on a journey with a young brahmin - Siddhartha, who decides to leave home in the quest for the ultimate truth. He relinqishes his luxurious house and family with his faithful friend Govinda, to head for the forest and lead an ascetic life. Living the monastic life, he learns much about himself, but even so, is still seeking a truth beyond all that which he has learnt. The narrative pendulum now swings to the the other extreme and Siddhartha's onward journey takes him from an austere to a sensual life which holds its own set of lessons for Siddhartha's perceptive mind. Having seen life from different angles, and the truth packaged in various forms, he goes on to discover his path.
