The intervention of social scientists in the musical world may look odd to many musicologists, but the volume presents important studies examining the various roles of music in social groupings and of social groupings in musical culture. The approach will enhance our understanding of the contributions of the music to contemporary cultures. The emerging music culture need extensive and intensive studies by social scientists.
