Solid State Physics is a guide for students pursuing their undergraduate degrees in Physics in different universities, as per the UGC course module. Summary Of The Book Solid State Physics, a branch of Condensed Matter Physics, refers to the study of solids using methods like crystallography, quantum mechanics, metallurgy and electromagnetism. It studies how large scale properties of solids can be generated from atomic-scale properties. This discipline forms the basis for materials science. It can also be applied to the technology of semiconductors and transistors. Solid State Physics covers the basic topics pertaining to the discipline of solid state physics, explaining in detail the simple theories of solid state and giving model derivations to facilitate a strong understanding of the fundamental theories. The book contains chapters on the Theory Of Metals, SemiConductors, Bond Theory Of Solids, Magnetism In Solids, Superconductivity and Dielectric Properties Of Solids. It presents information on the basics of solid state physics in a lucid and brief manner. It has parts of quantum mechanism and also explains the interaction of protons, electrons and atoms in solids on the basis of classical law. It also boasts of solved examples in the S.I. system of units explained comprehensively at the end of each chapter. The book is for undergraduate students of pure and applied sciences, and also for B.Sc students. Solid State Physics was published in 2009 by S. Chand & Publications. About The Authors Rajendra Kumar Puri is a professor in the Department of Physics at Panjab University. Another book by R. K. Puri is Management Information System. The author did his Master’s in Physics from Himachal Pradesh University in 1987, and then went on to pursue his Doctorate in Science from Panjab University. He has been a postdoctoral fellow at Universitat Tubingen in Germany and is also a visiting scientist at Universite de Nantes in France. He received the Young Scientist Research Award from the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government Of India in 1996 and was also conferred with a fellowship for two years at the National Institute For Nuclear Physics In Italy.
