Srimad Bhagavatam by Kamala Subramaniam is a concise translation that covers all the significant elements of the Mahapurana Srimad Bhagavatam. Summary Of The Book The Bhagavatam Pura?a is considered one of the greatest textbooks that has been dedicated to Lord Vishnu and written in Vedic Sanskrit. It comprises various tales revolving around the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. During the mid 1800s, Bhagavatam Pura?a became the first Puranic text to be rewritten in some European languages. This epic comprises knowledge of transcendentalism, ways to attain Nirvana through quitting all materialistic ways of life, and devoting oneself at the feet of Lord Vishnu. It claims that just by chanting certain holy verses every day, a person can gain nirvana and be detached from the materialistic world associated with birth and death. Certain citations in the book indicate that Veda Vyasa was the writer of this epic. Kamala Subramaniam has translated the Mahapurana to English, under the name Srimad Bhagavatam, for the benefit of readers who have no knowledge of Sanskrit. Without deviating from the core subject of its source book that deals with devotion to Lord Vishnu, Srimad Bhagavatam consists of essential Vedic texts translated from Sanskrit to English in a comprehensive form. The book is divided into ten sections. Subramaniam illustrates various eternal stories from the Mahapurana, such as the tale of Urvashi and the King Pururavas, the tale of Devyani and King Yayati, the famous King Trishanku's ordeal to become an immortal part of heaven, and the love story of Dushyant and Shakuntala. Srimad Bhagavatam merges the three yogas i.e., Bhakti, Karma, and Jnana of the Hindu philosophies. About Kamala Subramaniam Kamala Subramaniam is the daughter of renowned Kannada dramatist and poet Shri T. P. Kailasam. She has translated the epic books of Hinduism, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, into English. Subramaniam was born in Bangalore in the year 1916. She was an ardent follower of Shakespeare and had immense expertise in the discipline of English literature. Subramaniam was also an avid reader of both modern and classic literature. She was married to Dr. V. S. Subramaniam, a well-known ENT Surgeon from Madras. She passed away in the year 1983 after a long battle with cancer.
