About Kamala Subramaniam Kamala Subramaniam is the daughter of renowned Kannada dramatist and poet Shri T. P. Kailasam. She has translated the epic books of Hinduism, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, into English. Subramaniam was born in Bangalore in the year 1916. She was an ardent follower of Shakespeare and had immense expertise in the discipline of English literature. Subramaniam was also an avid reader of both modern and classic literature. She was married to Dr. V. S. Subramaniam, a well-known ENT Surgeon from Madras. She passed away in the year 1983 after a long battle with cancer.
