About The Author: Dr. V. Mohini Giri, the Founder/Managing Trustee of the Guild for Service, the Founder President of the War Widow's Association of India, and the Chairperson of the Guild of Service, is a wellknown social activist working for elderly and marginalized women. Earlier, she was Chairperson of the National Commission for Women. Dr. Giri's work involves a whole range of issues: widows who were, and continue to be, among the most marginalized women in India: a 33% reservation for women in parliament: rapidaction people's courts for women in rural areas and redefining: “charity” as developmental work. Dr. Giri was nominated among the 1000 Peace Women Across the Globe in 2005. She has received many awards, including the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India, and Lifetime Achievement Award for building a society for all ages by the UN Committee on Ageing. The Guild for Service runs a shelter home in Vrindavan, “Aamar BariMaDham”, where the elderly women are given the dignity of human life and also in Srinagar, Kashmir, “Rahat Ghar”, for the empowerment of the militancy effected women and children. Dr. Giri has lectured in 52 universities in the USA.
