In the early 21st century, the status of rural Scheduled Caste (SC) women inIndia has witnessed both positive changes and persistent challenges. Effortshave been made to improve their access to education, leading to increasedenrolment rates. Government initiatives like the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan andthe Right to Education Act have played a significant role in this progress.However, despite these improvements, drop-out rates and disparities in thequality of education remain concerns for SC girls in rural areas. In terms ofemployment and livelihood, SC women often face limited opportunities andlow wages, primarily engaging in agricultural labour where discriminationand exploitation persist.Nonetheless, addressing the complex issues faced by rural SC women, such aspoverty, social discrimination, and gender-based violence, requires sustainedefforts to ensure equal opportunities and a dignified life for them in the 21stcentury.
