The consensus building that any cultural expression should be apolitical is being implemented at the expense of capitalism. This agenda is being successfully implemented in our discourses, including literature. Anyone who regularly reads Malayalam periodicals will not fail to recognize this secret politics behind apoliticality. The global strategy of replacing real politics with the decadence of party politics and plundering the reading community politically and culturally has been implemented in Malayalam as well. A new cultural current where sexuality, violence and anarchy are celebrated is slowly gaining public acceptance. It is in such a context that E. Santosh Kumar's short novel Thankachan Manjakkaran becomes relevant.
