Why did Oscar Dunleavy disappear? Or did he really disappear? Summary of the Book Oscar Dunleavy was the boy next door, Meg’s best friend. She always relished the wonderful apple tarts that he would make, until she had to leave for New Zealand. Six months in New Zealand and Meg returns, but not to Oscar, as Oscar is now missing. All that he has left Meg is The Apple Tart of Hope, hope that the Oscar who had always been Meg’s close friend, the Oscar that Meg can’t live without is not dead. Another interesting character in the novel is Paloma Killealy, a woman who learnt well from her mother. Her mother taught her how to destroy an enemy. Paloma is a beautiful and sly schemer who becomes friends with Oscar while Meg was away. Her character has been powerfully portrayed by Fitzgerald in the novel. About Sarah Moore Fitzgerald Born and raised in Ireland, Sarah Moore Fitzgerald is now a professor as well as the Vice President of The University of Limerick in Ireland. She has also written non fictional books that have covered various aspects of writing, learning and teaching. Apart from being a writer, she is also a specialist in psychology, which we see in The Apple Tart of Hope where she throws light on issues among teenagers like loyalty, friendship and bullying.
