Summary Of The Book The Lost Symbol, by the famous American author Dan Brown, traces the journey of the famous fictional character, the Harvard University Symbologist, Robert Langdon. The book begins with Langdon being invited to give a lecture at the United States Capitol. He is invited by his mentor Peter Solomon, a 33rd degree Mason, who asks him to bring a package he had entrusted him with years ago. Upon reaching his destination, Langdon learns that the invitation was actually from Solomon’s kidnapper, Mal’akh, who forces Langdon to find the Mason’s Pyramid and the Lost Word. If Langdon fails to do so, Mal’akh will kill Solomon. Robert Langdon then embarks on a thrilling journey to find the Mason’s Pyramid and the Lost Word amidst the deepest and darkest streets of Washington D. C. Katherine, a Noetic Scientist, Warren Bellamy, an architect of the Capitol and Freemason, Peter, and Inoue Sato, a CIA Director, accompany Langdon in his quest which is marked by surprising revelations and life threatening danger. The author uses symbolism and figurative language to surprise and amaze the readers with the truth about Freemasons, who had been an integral part of the early patriotic era of the US. The entire story has been covered within the time frame of twenty four hours and follows a series of gruesome killings, revelations about the Holy Bible, the existence of God and the meaning behind various symbols. This book follows a theme similar to many Dan Brown books, which deal with heavy symbolism, architecture, secretive groups, suspense, and events that could change the world. About Dan Brown Dan Brown is an American writer, who was born on June 22, 1964. He has written other novels like The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Inferno, Digital Fortress, and Deception Point. His writings have themes of cryptography, codes and conspiracy related theories perfectly blended with a fictional plot and trace historical events with a different take. Dan Brown was the eldest of three children born to Richard Brown, a mathematics teacher. His love for puzzles as a child could possibly have been a contributor to his puzzling plots in almost all his novels. He graduated in 1986 from Amherst College. Brown’s books have sold more than 200 million copies. Two of his books have also been made into feature films.
