The Mad Tibetan: Stories From Then And Now has been written by Deepti Naval, one of India’s finest actresses. This collection of stories shows that Deepti is not only a talented writer but also a good painter. Several paintings drawn by the author have also been inserted between the pages of this story book. Every story is a vivid description of a facet of life; the story could be that of a prostitute in the by lanes of Kamathipura in Mumbai, or the Piano Tuner, but each has a distinct flavour to it. The stories speak of gloom in one instant and a glimmer of hope in the next.  The author does not hesitate to cite incidents that she has witnessed in her life. The portrayal of different characters, plots, and the subtexts bear testimony to this aspect. This is a collection eleven such tales and each carries its own subtle meaning. Deepti Naval, a reputed Indian actress, was born on 3rd February, 1957, in Amritsar, Punjab. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the Hunter College, Manhattan. She acted in her first film Jallianwala Bagh in 1977. Known for concentrating on art films, she is famous for her role in Mirch Masala and Chashme Buddoor. She is also a film director. She has written Black Wind And Other Poems.
