In The Mind’s Eye Oliver Sacks writes about the stories of people who rise to the challenge of communication and navigation through creativity and adaptation. People’s experiences and upbringing teaches that there are certain indispensable senses that help in natural body processes like recognising faces, enabling humans to read and sense a three dimensional space. The Mind’s Eye is a collection of case studies that explore some of these fundamental aspects that enable the human brain to perceive and create the world without the necessary senses to do so. It includes his own experience with prosopagnosia or cancer of the eye and his struggles with it. The book testifies the complexity of vision and perception of brain through simple real life stories.
