The Notebook is a story of an enduring romance that survives age and disease. Summary Of The Book The Notebook begins several years before the Second World War. Noah Calhoun is a young man working in a lumber yard. One day, he meets Allie Nelson, a beautiful young woman, and at once falls in love with her. Noah manages to convince Allie to go on a date with him. The two are irresistibly attracted towards each other, but there is little hope of their love ever having a happy ending. Allie, meanwhile, has become engaged to a successful lawyer and is quite happy. But fate makes Noah cross her path again, and the old attraction is soon rekindled. Now, each of them have to make a decision about what course of action they are going to take. In the present time, an old man in a hospital is reading from an old notebook to a fellow patient, a woman suffering from alzheimers. The Notebook is a record of the love story between Noah and Allie. About Nicholas Sparks Nicholas Sparks is a popular writer of romance novels. Other books by Sparks are A Walk To Remember,The Last Song, Message In A Bottle, The Notebook, Dear John, and Nights In Rodanthe. His books are mostly epic love stories. Nicholas Sparks was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1965. He is a middle-child as he has an older brother and a younger sister who died when she was 33. Her life was the inspiration for his novel, A Walk To Remember. After trying several careers, Sparks finally found success as a writer. His first book was co-authored by Billy Miles, Wokini: A Lakota Journey To Happiness And Self-Understanding. The book was successful, but Sparks’ career was really launched after the publication of his first novel, The Notebook. It became a bestseller, and several of his books, including The Notebook have been adapted into movies.
