Modern literary theory owes a great deal to I.A. Richards (1893)-(1979) whose name is associated with almost every school of criticism. He has been Visiting Professor of English at M.D. University, Rohtak, Vikram University, Ujjain, S.P. University, Vallabh Vidyanagar and Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He has worked in various capacities at Banaras Hindu University (1956-58), Gujarat University (1958-67), Kurukshetra University (1967-92), Delhi University (1970), and Basra University (1979-80). He undertook an extensive tour in 1983 in England to record responses of professors, critics and writers of Indian English literature. His Publications include Indian Novel in English and Matthew Arnold : Alochak. The Critical anthologies edited by him are Stylistic Approaches to Literature (1993), Modern Literary Theories (1993), Postmodern Literary Theories (1994) and Cleanth Brooks : His Critical Formulations (1991). He haws rendered John Donne's poetry in Hindi. He is currently engaged in the preparations of 2 more anthologies viz A Spectrum History of Indian Writing in English and Women about Women : A Case Study of Indian Writing in English. The other anthologies edited by him are Drama in English and modern Poetry in English.
