The Teachings of Don Juan - A Yaqui Way of Knowledge was first written by Carlos Castaneda as his thesis for his master’s degree in anthropology. The book is an astonishing journey into the ever-enigmatic world of sorcery. Summary of the Book In 1960, Carlos met a Yaqui Indian called Don Juan, whose peculiar powers had made the man an abjured and dreaded personality by the American Southwest folks. His knowledge had led him into a world that was both beautiful and horrifying. The author describes his experiences of unusual events in this book. The book is divided into two parts: The Teachings and A Structural Analysis. The first section talks about the author’s first interactions with Juan – a first person narrative. The second section attempts to expose the internal structure and the dynamism of Juan’s teachings. About Carlos Castaneda Carlos Castaneda was a Peruvian-American anthropologist and author. He has written several books on shamanism. He completed his Ph.D. in anthropology at UCLA. He founded an organization called Cleargreen to promote tensegrity.
