The Unwitting is the stunning new novel by Ellen Feldman. The title comes from the CIA parlance – those who know are among the “witting”, and the rest are among the “unwitting”. Summary of the Book The day President Kennedy was shot, Nell Benjamin gets a phone call about her husband, the prominent young editor of a literary magazine. While a nation mourns a public loss, Nell has a personal loss to endure. Also, a revelation about Charlie turns her understanding of marriage upside down. With an impending cold war over the lives of Americans and other political strife, the line between the good and the bad, the right and the wrong, and loyalty and love seems to be getting more blurry than ever. Nell has to now question her own fidelity not only to her country or to her career as a journalist, but the toughest of all – the people she loves. About Ellen Feldman Ellen Feldman is an American writer whose novel, Scottsboro was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2009. She currently lives in NYC and East Hampton, New York. Some of Feldman’s other notable works include Looking for Love, Conjugal Rites, The Boy Who Loved Anne Frank, Next to Love, and Too Close to Comfort.
