Summary of the Book This book is an excellent guide for those who aspire to learn playing the percussion music instrument Tabla. The author himself is a maestro and has authored this book to make learning more enjoyable and easier. The book explains the notations and various types of beats – ‘Taal’ – which forms the crux of playing the instrument. The two divisions in the book are made for theory and practice respectively. In the beginning, the evolution of Laya, rhythmic instruments, alphabet and the language of Tabla are described. Short biographies of some renowned Tabla musicians are included. Another chapter talks about the Pakhawaj players. The second part of the book mainly deals with different kinds of Taal. He has received many accolades and awards, including the President's award for standing first at the All India Radio Competitions held on a National scale.
