Productive safety net is one component of the social protection designed to support the poor and reduce vulnerability in Ethiopia. Social protection generally encompasses social and economic transfers, access to services, social support and care services, and equity and non-discrimination legislation and policies. This book emphasized on the contributions of Urban Productive Safety Net Programme (UPSNP) in improving livelihoods of beneficiaries in Dire Dawa city, Ethiopia. This book is very useful to the those who are engaged in various social welfare programmes and working for the poorer and vulnerable sections of the society and to promote qualitative services Dr. Karanam Viswa Bhushan, Associate professor of social work who has been working in Maharaja's Post graduate college (awarded 'A' Grade by NACC) since two decades (affiliated to Andhra university) Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, India. He successfully completed the employment contract under United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for two years as Associate Professor in Ethiopian Civil Service University, Ethiopia. He secured International certificate in community development and Adult education at Nijmegen University, Netherlands. He has participated in several National and International (Belgium, Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Thailand, Malaysia and Canada) seminars, conferences and workshops and enriched with the knowledge of social work education. He has zeal of learning and great attitude towards teaching and research. He has delivered guest lecturers in several universities in Canada and Germany. His focused areas are capacity building, empowering women groups(SHG'S, DWACRA'S), child education and health, youth development, Awareness building on social issues, community development in urban slums, rural and tribal areas. He has good network with the NGO'S and promoted several programmes for the community development. He has Life membership in several National associations of social work education.
