The Vedic mantra is part of a body of traditional material that is much more extensive than what is before us. People kept memorizing the Vedas from generation to generation. The Vedic hymns were passed down from the gurus to the disciples through the Shruti tradition. The result was that the same verse appeared in different branches with different versions. Sometimes there is a difference in the order of words. Many times, in place of old and complex words, familiar, simple and up-to-date words are kept, the difference of text arises. Maurice Bloomfield composed the Vedic-Hierarchy-Dictionary to present all these systematically. This is a well-known and very important text, which till now was available only in Roman script with ancient vowels. Due to this many Vedgya scholars used to face a lot of inconvenience. More and more Sanskrit scholars and researchers will be able to get the benefit of the presented Devanagari edition.
