Palkhivala was a distinguished Indian Jurist and Economist. His other work is Nani Palkhivala: Selected Writings. Born in 1920 in Bombay, he received his Master’s degree in English Literature from St. Xavier's College. He then enrolled in Government Law College in Mumbai to earn his law degree. His most famous case as a jurist is the Kesavananda Bharati Vs. the State of Kerala, wherein the historic ruling that the fundamental right of the individual was to be protected at all costs was declared. A gifted speaker, he was held in high regard in the government, and in academic, economic and legal fields. He was a great defender of civil rights and the freedom of the press. He passed away in 2002, at the age of 82.
