Feature of the BookThe book contains Eight Chapters with tables and graphs. The Chapter Ibeing introduction, the Chapter II reviews the previous studies that haveanalyzed India?s agricultural export performance. The chapter criticallyexamined the results of some of the macro-economic studies that have lookedinto the effects of trade liberalization in general and of WTO agreementsin particular. It also contains a review of studies relating to determinantsof exports. The Chapter III discusses the various provisions made underthe WTO and India?s commitment for the promotion of world trade. Thischapter demonstrates how liberalized trade and a trade regime based onmultilateral negotiations are important for smooth and profitable conductof trade. The conflicting interests of developing and developed countriesare also discussed. An assessment of the impact of the AoA on Indianagriculture and what kind of strategies suit India in the given circumstancesare also elaborated.Chapter IV discusses on the various conferences that were held under WTOregime to promote agriculture and AoA. All the Ministerial conferences thathave been taken place under WTO regime have been discussed in detail.Over the last six decades of Indian planning, the perception about theimportance of external sector in economic development had gone through anumber of changes. All the changes that have taken place under the variousFive-Year Plan periods to promote agricultural commodities as one of theprime export-items and institutional frame work have been discussed in theChapter V. Chapter VI discusses trends and determinants of India?s agriexportsat aggregate and disaggregate levels. The impact of WTO on India?sagri-exports is also presented in this chapter.Realizing the importance of agriculture exports to India?s agriculturaleconomy, Government of India has taken various promotional measuresto boost agriculture exports. Chapter VII mainly focuses on the emergingissues under WTO. The last Chapter attempts to present conclusions onthe impact of WTO on Agricultural exports from India and their policyimplications.
