The word 'swastika' is a Sanskrit word ('swastika') which means 'this', good, good existence and good luck. However, it is also known by different names in different countries - such as 'wan' in China, manji in Japan, filefot in engine, hakka and 'tetraskelion' in German, or 'tetragamadion' in Greek.
It symbolizes many things - fortune, Surya (Sun) and Brahma, the creator. Ganesh Puja is necessary before starting any work and Swastika is the symbol of Lord Ganesha. The four wings of the Swastik cross point towards the four directions, i.e. North, East, South and West, which signify stability, firmness and strength. The swastika is considered very sacred and hence this motif is used to decorate almost everything associated with Hinduism. The right side of the swastika represents the rotation of the Sun, starting with the northern hemisphere and then moving east, then south and finally west. On the left side of the Swastika is Sauvastika. It is a symbol of Goddess Kali, who is depicted in a very horrifying manner. For the Hindu, the four limbs of the Swastika represent the 4 Vedas (Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Parva Veda), the 4 goals of life (deserves, success, happiness and release from the world), the 4 stages of life (students, household, retired person and penance), 4 directions (North, South, East and West), 4 seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter), 4 eras (Satya Yuga, Vastra Yuga, Dwara Yuga and Kali Yuga), 4 Social class (priests, warriors, traders and workers) and the 4 paths of yoga (Janaana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga and Raja Yoga).
